Plasma-Boosted Bi2Mn4O10 Electrocatalysis Enables Real-Time On-Board Monitoring of CO2 in Exhaust AITranslate
Abstract AITranslate
Real-time monitoring of CO2 concentration in automobile exhaust is critical for effective carbon emission reduction. However, the inherently inert nature of CO2 poses a significant challenge for achieving accurate and efficient detection in the exhaust automobile environment. To overcome this, we introduce a groundbreaking smart CO2 sensing technology based on gas discharge ionization. By leveraging nonthermal plasma (NTP), CO2 is efficiently converted into highly reactive CO, which is subsequently detected by a high-performance yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)-based CO sensor. The sensor incorporates a Bi2Mn4O10 sensing electrode (SE) and an Mn-based reference electrode (RE), ensuring unparalleled selectivity and sensitivity for CO2 monitoring in vehicle exhaust systems. Detailed analysis of Bi2Mn4O10 highlights its strong electrochemical affinity for CO, which significantly boosts the sensor's durability and precision in detecting CO under dynamic conditions. This innovative fusion of NTP-based CO2 conversion and YSZ-based CO detection results in a sensing system that excels in both robustness and accuracy, even in challenging environments. To further validate its potential, we developed a portable, real-time CO2 monitoring device, seamlessly integrating the NTP chamber with the electrochemical CO sensor. The device delivers exceptional detection performance and real-time tracking capabilities, offering a highly promising solution for remote continuous monitoring of CO2 emissions in vehicles.
