Abstract AITranslate

The theory of electromagnetism has made countless contributions to the understanding of physicochemical phenomena and continues to be relevant in many scientific fields. The use of electromagnetism to induce physical flux in a fluid containing ions is known as magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). In electrochemistry, MHD has been explored, among others, to produce for example chiral structures on the surface of electrodes. However, the Lorentz force responsible for inducing hydrodynamic convection in an electrochemical system also allows bypassing mass transport limitations in novel and unconventional processes. This review aims to highlight the principles of MHD convection and to discuss recent and unconventional approaches to the integration of magnetic fields in electrochemical systems.
