Abstract AITranslate

Nowadays, it is considered promising to achieve non-invasive detection of metabolic diseases using exocrine secretion (e.g. sweat, tears, saliva, and so on) to replace blood samples. However, the overly complex components in the exocrine secretion and the extremely low concentration of biomarkers have brought great difficulties to accurate detection. In this work, we describe a fluorescence probe for the non-invasive detection of biomarkers, which consists of a synthesized water-soluble conjugated polymer, poly(9,9-dihexylfluorene)-b-poly(methacryloxy chloroethyl) trimethyl ammonium iodide, and hydroquinone. Owing to its high selectivity and sensitivity, the probe combined with the corresponding oxidase can well qualify glucose, uric acid, and galactose with detection limits of 2.20, 1.02, and 0.60 μM, respectively. Moreover, it would not be influenced by other components in the body fluids. A diabetes diagnosis clinical trial was successfully carried out, showing that the probe is suitable for application in identifying blood glucose levels in an indirect way by the detection of human sweat with satisfactory results. Our work provides a strategy for the detection of ultra-low concentration biomarkers in the complex system, meanwhile offering insights into the applications of water-soluble conjugated block copolymers.
