Abstract AITranslate

Amidoxime ligands coordinate with a wide range of metal ions including transition metals, lanthanides, and actinides rather than Group IA and IIA elements. To date, a wide variety of amidoxime ligands have been synthesized and characterized for their metal coordination properties. These ligands have also been studied in the field of chemical biology. Alongside this, poly(amidoxime) (PA) has the same coordination function, but little literature exists that discusses PA and metal extraction. Therefore, in this Spotlight on Applications, we briefly discuss amidoxime ligands and their chemical properties before extensively describing PA resins. This includes the synthesis of PA resins/ligands from various sources, their metal sorption and extraction properties, their capacity for rare earth and uranium sorption and extraction, and other uses of this material.
