With the starry river as our canopy and the firmament as our page, as commercial space reshapes the industrial landscape with irresistible momentum, as tens of thousands of satellites weave an information net enveloping the entire globe, as the footprints of human civilization extend from low Earth orbit to the Moon and into deep space—aerospace has transcended its role as a mere symbol of national scientific prowess. It has become a core engine driving breakthroughs in fundamental science and propelling clusters of frontier technologies. At the same time, artificial intelligence is redrawing the boundaries of cognition at unprecedented depth, quantum computing is revealing its first glimmers of disruptive promise, and new materials and advanced manufacturing are reconstructing the material world at the atomic scale. The convergence of these multiple tides of technology is pushing aerospace toward the threshold of a profound transformation: no longer merely the integration and culmination of engineering disciplines, it is increasingly a wellspring of fundamental science, an incubator of frontier technologies, and a catalyst for interdisciplinary fusion—in the dynamic interplay between engineering demands and scientific discovery, it steadily opens new frontiers of human knowledge and practice.

How do we channel the vitality of burgeoning frontier fields into reinvigorating traditional industries and propelling them toward leapfrog development? How do we channel the myriad rivulets of basic research into the mighty river of engineering innovation? How do we, amid the surge of a new scientific and technological revolution, open new paradigms and possibilities for the aerospace enterprise? These questions constitute the defining challenge of our era—one that the global aerospace community must confront together.

It is precisely at this historic confluence that Hyper comes into being.

The journal is sponsored by the China Academy of Aerospace Systems & Innovation (CASI), published by Youke Publishing Co., Ltd., and distributed globally through the Web of Tech and IEEE Xplore platforms in partnership with IEEE. The name Hyper originates from the term coined by Qian Xuesen, the founding father of China's aerospace program, to denote cutting-edge technologies—those frontier explorations that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries and reach into uncharted territories. To bear the name Hyper is to pay solemn tribute to Qian's scientific spirit and visionary foresight, and more importantly, to declare our editorial conviction: transcend boundaries, fuse innovations, and seek the dawn of breakthroughs at the intersection of disciplines.

What distinguishes Hyper is that while it is driven by the grand demands of aerospace, it refuses to be confined within the established boundaries of traditional aerospace engineering. We hold a deep conviction: a leap forward in launch-vehicle capability may trace its origin to the serendipitous discovery of a new material; the intelligent coordination of a satellite constellation may be rooted in a fundamental breakthrough in artificial intelligence theory; the autonomous decision-making of a deep-space probe may be traced back to how cognitive neuroscience redefines the very nature of "intelligence." Between basic science and engineering application, the relationship should never be a one-way, linear transmission—it should be like warp and weft, interwoven and mutually empowering. As an open and sharing platform, what Hyper sets out to do is precisely to weave this web of knowledge that spans disciplinary boundaries—letting the deep insights of physics illuminate the blind spots of engineering, and letting the algorithmic wisdom of information science imbue systems with intelligence, and letting the atomic magic of materials science and manufacturing technologies breathe new life into structures.

The journal covers four core domains, each with its own emphasis yet in constant dialogue with the others: Intelligent and Complex Aerospace Systems and Technologies, focusing on the deep integration of foundational AI theory and aerospace intelligent applications, from cognitive science to autonomous decision-making, from digital twins to embodied intelligence, from human-machine collaboration to intelligent space traffic management; Aerospace Critical Systems and Infrastructure, encompassing the integration of communications, navigation, sensing, and computing across air, space, and ground domains, as well as advanced propulsion and complex system modeling and simulation; Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies, exploring the frontiers and applications of metamaterials, intelligent manufacturing of metastructures, and the integrated innovation of materials, structures, processes, and manufacturing; and Fundamental Aerospace Sciences and Technologies, delving deep into foundational fields such as digital-intelligence mechanics, quantum technology, space physics, and deep-space astronomy. Vast as these domains may appear, they share a common spiritual core: using the depth of basic research to elevate engineering innovation; using the precision of technological breakthroughs to transcend the limits of system performance leaps; and using the breadth of interdisciplinary fusion to expand the dimensions of aerospace development. This is the consistent mission and pursuit of our journal.

Hyper publishes a flexible array of article types—original research papers, review articles, editorials, commentaries, perspectives, and News & Views—striving to provide each form of thought and discovery with its most fitting mode of expression. The journal is published in an open-access partnership with IEEE, ensuring that every piece of cutting-edge research can cross the barriers of geography and institution, reaching the global academic and industrial communities swiftly and broadly. What we seek is not merely the impact factor in the bibliometric sense, but the influence of ideas themselves; not merely the growth of annual publication volume, but substantive contributions to the advancement of knowledge.

The vitality of a journal, in the final analysis, springs from the scholarly community it gathers around itself. Authors endow it with the soul of original creativity, reviewers safeguard the baseline of its quality, the editorial team nurtures its day-to-day growth, and readers—through their attention, citations, and critiques—shape its direction and character. The birth of Hyper would not have been possible without the trust and dedication of every fellow traveler on this journey. To all the mentors and friends who have poured their hearts into this endeavor, we extend our most sincere respect and gratitude.

Beneath the boundless starry sky of fundamental science, along the long and arduous journey of the aerospace enterprise, may Hyper become a lighthouse—illuminating the uncharted intersections where disciplines converge, kindling the sparks of original innovation, and bridging a bridge from fundamental discoveries to engineering marvels. We envision a future day when, looking back upon a breakthrough on the landscape of aerospace technology, one may trace its intellectual genesis to the pages of Hyper!

Welcome to Hyper.

Here, boundaries exist only to be crossed, and frontiers wait only to be expanded.
